Drama in Veszprem

15^th National English Language Drama Festival

General information

• We look forward to hosting English language theater productions involving a minimum of two players from any school (university, high school and elementary school, public or private) in Hungary.
• Please note that the exact date can vary depending on the number of application (it can be on Friday and Saturday only).
• Troupes will be provided every necessities (lighting, sound, and stage setting) by the organizers and the theater technicians of the venue. Please note that the venue has Hungarian-speaking staff.
• The performances will be discussed at group discussions, with the participation of theater and English language experts.
• The high school and university troupes will have the opportunity to participate in fun drama activities, as well as skills development workshops and presentations.
• There will be no competition for awards among the performers.
• Please note that it is the sole responsibility of the troupes to check copyright issues and whether they are required to pay royalties to the author or publishing house for the performance of the play they have chosen.
• Troupes may apply with a play written by the troupe or their teacher.
• Troupes will need to provide for their own travel costs, meals and any additional expenses. Please also note, that this year, due to unforeseen circumstances, American Corner Veszprém cannot cover accommodation for the high school and university troupes. If you plan to stay the night(s), we recommend the University of Pannonia Központi Kollégium.

Elementary school troupes

• Elementary school groups will perform on the first day of the Festival (Friday afternoon).
• Productions should be in English and running time should be between 10 and 20 minutes. Please do not exceed this, otherwise we shall reconsider your participation the next year.
• Each troupe will have about 20 minutes before the play to set their stage.
• Each performing elementary school group must be accompanied by at least one teacher from their school.
• Elementary school groups are not be required to stay for the whole three days of the Festival.

High school and university troupes

• High school and university groups will perform on the second and third days of the Festival.
• We strongly recommend high school and university troupes to stay and watch all the other plays so that they can learn and gather experience from each other.
• Productions should be in English and running time should be between 30 and 45 minutes. Please do not exceed this, otherwise we shall reconsider your participation the next year.
• Each troupe will have about 30 minutes before the play to set their stage.
• Each performing high school group must be accompanied by at least one teacher from their school.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 14, 2025.

The applications will be evaluated by the organizing committee, and troupes will be notified about the results by the end of February.
